Welcome

I am happy for those that chose to be a part of WB-2129. It has been our vision to influence as many Scouters as possible by presenting the Leadership Principles of the Wood Badge Course.  Throughout this course we have been talking about things like character, leadership and legacy and sharing what it means to "live the example" as a leader in all levels of Scouting.

I have gathered some of the best Scouters to present the Wood Badge course. Together, this staff and I have a great program prepared and I am certain each participant will continue to have FUN and will be able to go home and immediately apply the principles they have learned.

During this course the participants were divided up into groups or teams. These teams have been working together and developing new friendships, and have found a source of help and support that will take them through the remainder of this course and beyond. The memories they are making at WB-2129 will help lead them the rest of their life.

THANK YOU to those that chose to be part of WB-2129. If you were not able to join us on this adventure I hope you will consider one of the future courses. If there are any questions I can answer for you, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Gordon Shaw
Course Director, WB-2129

What is Wood Badge?

Wood Badge is a training course for Scouters which results in their receiving a certificate of completion, a neckerchief, a leather woggle and two small wooden beads on a leather strap. Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting movement, directed the first course in 1919 and gave each of the participants one of the beads which he had captured from the African chieftain and this is how  the course name developed, with the symbol literally being a wooden badge.

Who should attend Wood Badge?

Wood Badge is for all Scouters: Cub Scout Den and Pack leaders, Boy Scout Troop leaders, Venture leaders, District Commissioners, District Committee members and professional Scouters.

Why should I attend Wood Badge?

The short answer is our youth deserve it!  Wood Badge is a practical hands-on and course that is relevant to your role in the Scouting program.  You will learn skills that you will be able to apply in your unit as soon as you return and these same skills can also be applied to your professional career.

Do I need to have outdoor training or skills before attending?

Since overnight tent camping and outdoor cooking will be part of the course, some basic camping skills will be helpful, but outdoor skills are not required. The experienced staff and other participants will help those new to the outdoors have a safe and enjoyable learning experience.  You will need to complete the training requirements of your current position in scouting including Youth Protection Training.

I am new to Scouting.  Should I wait a year or so before attending Wood Badge?

We recommend that you attend Wood Badge as early as possible in your scouting career. Wood Badge will help you understand the scouting program and how you can make a real difference. This course will help you be better at your scouting position, which means you will enjoy it more. The more you enjoy it the better the program will be.
